Submit an Article for Publication

These guidelines ensure every contribution reflects the standards, professionalism, and enlisted heritage that NCO Leadership Primer represents. Submissions should be practical, experience‑driven, and immediately useful to today’s frontline leaders.

To start the submission process, read the Submission Guidelines below and fill out the form. We will respond to all submissions within 14 days.

1. Purpose of Submissions

NCO Leadership Primer accepts content that strengthens the enlisted corps by focusing on:

  • Practical leadership lessons
  • Real‑world experiences from the field, flightline, shops, and work centers
  • Tools, frameworks, and insights frontline leaders can apply immediately
  • Stories that reinforce enlisted identity, professionalism, and mission readiness

Content should help NCOs lead better today — not just think about leadership in theory.

2. Acceptable Submission Types

Contributors may submit:

  • Short essays (500–900 words)
  • Leadership vignettes (real experiences with a clear lesson)
  • How‑to guides for common leadership challenges
  • Checklists or frameworks used in your unit
  • Reflections on NCO responsibilities, standards, or culture
  • Mentorship insights for developing NCOs

All content must be original and rooted in personal experience or professional practice.

3. Writing Expectations

Submissions must be:

  • Clear and direct — write like you’re talking to an NCO in your shop
  • Action‑oriented — include takeaways, steps, or lessons learned
  • Professional — no profanity, personal attacks, or unprofessional tone; apolitical
  • Mission‑focused — tie leadership back to readiness, standards, or culture
  • Authentic — speak from your experience, not from doctrine or clichés

Avoid academic jargon, corporate buzzwords, or overly formal PME language.

4. Structure Requirements

Each submission should include:

  • Title — concise and descriptive
  • Hook — a short opening that grabs attention
  • Core Message — the main point or lesson
  • Supporting Story or Example — real, relevant, and specific
  • Actionable Takeaways — what NCOs can do with this information
  • Closing Thought — a final insight or challenge to the reader

This structure keeps the Primer consistent and easy to use.

5. Content Boundaries

To maintain professionalism and protect our service members:

  • Do not include classified, sensitive, or OPSEC‑related information
  • Do not name individuals in a negative context
  • Do not reference ongoing investigations, disciplinary actions, or grievances
  • Do not promote political, religious, or partisan viewpoints
  • Do not submit fully AI‑generated content
  • Stories involving others should be anonymized unless you have explicit permission

AI tools may be used for brainstorming or editing, but the final written content must be human‑authored.

6. Formatting Standards

  • Submit in Word or Google Doc format
  • Use a 12‑point, clean, readable font
  • Keep paragraphs short (3–5 sentences)
  • Use headings or bullet points where appropriate
  • Include your name, rank, unit, and a one‑ or two‑sentence bio

7. Review & Approval Process

All submissions will be reviewed for:

  • Accuracy
  • Professionalism
  • Relevance to enlisted leadership
  • Alignment with NCO Leadership Primer standards

Editors may request revisions for clarity, tone, or structure. Submitting an article does not guarantee publishing. Final approval rests with the NCO Leadership Primer editorial staff.
